Vegan Hot Chocolate – ALWAYS In Season

Not really in season?  I know it’s technically spring, but I’m currently wrapped under a blanket on my sofa so a cup of hot chocolate really wouldn’t go amiss right now.

Regardless of the weather, I’m always a fan of a big, tasty, cosy cup of warm cocoa. I strongly believe that a think hot cocoa is always in season. It’s perfect on those cold winter evenings, sleepy autumn afternoons, breezy spring mornings and those cosy summer days that just call for a little treat.

How To Make The Creamiest Hot Cocoa

We’re not using any cream or thickener. How are we going to pull this off?

Worry do not, for I have come up with the best solution. This vegan hot chocolate recipe uses just 3 staple ingredients:

  • cocoa
  • any plant-based milk (I used unsweetened almond)
  • sugar (I used muscovado sugar)

And yet, it’s super creamy and ready to curb all your chocolate cravings! 


You would think 3 simple ingredients can’t possibly make an interesting drink, but oh boy, that’s really not the case. Sometimes the best recipes are the simplest ones you just happen to come up with whilst experimenting with a couple of ingredients. The secret to this hot cocoa lies in the paste. Skip that step and your cooca just won’t be the same.

Vegan Hot Chocolate

  • 5 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp light muscovado sugar
  • 2,5 cups almond milk (unsweetened)


  1. Create a paste by using 5 tablespoons of cocoa and slowly adding ½ cup of unsweetened almond milk.

  2.  Stir vigorously using a metal whisk. 

  3. Transform to a pan, add sugar and slowly add the rest of your almond milk while you warm up the mixture on medium heat.

Stir regularly and warm up until thick consistency. Be careful not to burn. 

  1. Enjoy with toppings of your choice (marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles, whipped cream)⁣.
