Large straw optional
- 1 teabag green/black/fruit tea
- ½ cup quick-cooking tapioca pearls
- 1,5 tablespoon sugar white sugar, granulated sugar, etc
- ½ ripe honeydew
- 1 cup milk of choice I used unsweetened oat milk
Optional
- 1 teaspoon matcha optional
- 1 handful ice cubes
Add tea bag to 1 cup (235ml) of boiled water. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove the bag and let the tea cool down completely (preferably in the fridge).
Add tapioca pearls to a pan full of boiling hot water.
Let simmer for about 5-6 minutes. If you want the pearls to be softer, cook for longer. If you want them chewier, cook for less long.
Remove from heat and strain through a sieve. If you don't have a sieve, simply scoop out the balls with a spoon/spatula.
Immediately cover with sugar. Give it a good stir. Set aside.
Peel honeydew and remove the seeds. Cut into small pieces and add to a blender (or food processor). Add milk and blend until completely smooth.
Optional: add ice cubes & matcha and blend again. This will make it super refreshing & add a green tone.
To serve, add tapioca balls to a large glass. Serve with crushed ice if desired. Then add (cooled down) tea and honeydew/milk mixture.
Stir well and add more sweetener if desired. Enjoy!
Important: Always taste before serving - and adjust the sweetness to your own personal taste. Everyone enjoys their boba differently!
- COOKING BOBA - While I do provide general instructions, I recommend following the instruction on your package - every brand varies.
- MORE FRUITY? For a fruitier flavor, sub out black/green tea for fruit tea!
- SEPARATED? - The drink can separate a little. Stir it with the straw before sipping again.
- LUKEWARM - Never serve boba lukewarm. It will not be a pleasant experience. Serve it ice cold or piping hot.
- BLEND WELL - When blending your honeydew milk mixture, make sure you blend until completely smooth.
- TASTE & ADJUST - It's highly recommended to taste boba before serving and adjust it to taste by adding more sugar/milk/tea/etc.
To store - I don't recommend storing this drink for later. It might end up tasting bitter and acidic.
