Vanilla Boba Milk Tea - Iced or Hot

Equipment

  • 1 small pan
  • 1 Mug
  • 1 spoon
  • 2 Tall glasses
  • 2 Large straws

Ingredients

  • 1 bag tea black, green, oolong, etc
  • ½ cup quick-cooking tapioca pearls
  • 2 tablespoon sugar brown, white, granulated
  • 3 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk I used unsweetened oat milk

Optional

  • 1 handful ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare tea by adding 1 tea bag (or 2 teaspoon of loose leaf tea) to 1 cup (235ml) of boiled water.

  • Steep for 5 minutes & then let cool down completely.
  • Add tapioca pearls to a small saucepan filled with boiling hot water. Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Important - Read the instructions on your tapioca pearls packaging. Cooking times vary per brand!
    ½ cup quick-cooking tapioca pearls
  • Reserve 2 tablespoons of water and drain the rest.
  • Add sugar and the reserved water to the cooked boba pearls. Stir well and set aside.

  • Fill two tall glasses with ice. Add boba pearls. Then add vanilla extract on top.
    3 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 handful ice cubes
  • Add cold tea and cold milk on top. Stir well & enjoy!

Notes

  • MIX - If you don't mix it well, the vanilla will stay on the bottom.
  • HOT - To serve hot, skip the ice cubes and add piping hot tea and milk.
  • BITTER - Black tea can have a slightly bitter flavor if you let it steep for too long. Add more sugar to neutralize this.
  • TEXTURE - Adjust the consistency of boba pearls to your taste. Cook for a few minutes longer if you prefer a softer texture. 
  • Extra hint - Want to maximize the vanilla flavor? Add two kinds of vanilla - for example vanilla extract & vanilla paste.
