Honeydew melon milk tea is the perfect refresher on a sunny day! Made from fresh honeydew, it's based on easy ingredients and super-simple steps. The ideal bubble tea for any fruit lover!
This fragrant melon boba is a vibrant green alternative to my mango, chocolate, strawberry, and jasmine milk tea! It's SO TASTY and overall much more affordable than getting it from a cafe (Chatime, Gong Cha, etc).

Ingredient Notes
Honeydew - The riper, the better! I can't stress the importance of this enough. The taste of honeydew really makes or breaks this boba. If you don't have fresh honeydew, I've added instructions on how to make it with powdered honeydew below.
Tea - SO many options. I used green jasmine tea. You can use black (Assam) tea, oolong tea, fruit tea, or even matcha.
Milk - To keep this dairy-free I used oat milk. It works SO WELL in this drink! But you can use any other milk you want. The creamier, the better!
Tapioca (boba) balls - If possible, support your local Asian supermarket and buy tapioca pearls there - they will be way cheaper than online. If you can't get them locally, try Amazon.
Sugar - You can technically use any sugar (brown, coconut, granulated, caster, etc), but I prefer light sugars to keep the drink nice and light.
SECRET INGREDIENT: Ta-da! It's matcha! I added a teaspoon of matcha to my honeydew & milk blend. This gives it a gentle green color and an earthy flavor.

💡 Expert Tips
- COOKING BOBA - While I do provide general instructions below, I recommend following the instruction on your package - every brand varies.
- MORE FRUITY? For a fruitier flavour, sub out black/green tea for fruit tea!
- SEPARATED? - The drink can separate a little. Stir it with the straw before sipping again.
- LUKEWARM - Never serve boba lukewarm. It will not be a pleasant experience. Serve it ice cold or piping hot.
- BLEND WELL - When blending your honeydew milk mixture, make sure you blend until it's completely smooth.
- TASTE & ADJUST - It's highly recommended to taste boba before serving and adjust it to taste by adding more sugar/milk/tea/etc.
Important Tip! Everyone has a different preference when it comes to boba pearl texture. If you want it chewier, cook it for less long. If you prefer softer boba, cook it for longer.
❓FAQ
It has three main flavor notes - fruity, milky & floral.
The taste mainly depends on how ripe the honeydew is - seasonal, ripe honeydew will give a much fuller & fruiter flavor than its unripe counterpart.
But there's a solution - if you can't get your hands on seasonal honeydew, swap the green/black tea for fruit tea. Mango, watermelon, strawberry & peach work super well!
Additionally, your choice of tea influences the flavor too. Black tea will give a stronger flavor, while green or white tea will be milder.
Yes, it does. Both black and green tea that you'll be using in this recipe contains caffeine.
For a decaf version, skip the tea altogether or use decaf.
Honeydew milk tea has approx. 332 calories per portion (estimate only).
🍫 Variations
The best thing about this boba?
You can NEVER get bored of it because there are so many ways to serve it!
Here are some super popular options:
- Peach: Add a ripe peach to the blender. Mix together with honeydew & milk.
- Mint: Same as above, but instead of peach, add a few leaves of fresh mint.
- Lemon or lime: Add a squeeze of citrus juice to your tea before serving.
- Sweetener: sweeten it up with a liquid sweetener such as maple or agave syrup.
You could also leave the flavors as they are, but experiment with different toppings such as:
- Whipped cream
- Lavender
- A drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce
- Sprinkles
🍵 Serving
You will need two tall glasses and large straws to serve this drink.
Don't have thick straws? Use normal straws and a long spoon to scoop out the pearls.
Serve it with crushed ice just like they do in your local boba shop. If you don't have crushed ice, you can make it yourself by pulsing ice cubes in a blender.
Alternatively, you could also blend ice cubes with milk.
To serve HOT - Heat up the milk & honeydew mixture and serve with freshly made tea.
📦 Storage
It's best to serve honeydew boba FRESH.
I generally don't recommend storing it for later.
This is because of a process called oxidation which happens when the nutrients in your fresh fruit juice are exposed to air (source).
Even if you've refrigerated the drink in an airtight container, you might still experience an unpleasant difference in taste.
The drink can become bitter, more acidic & overall less tasty.
However, you can make a large batch of boba pearls and store them for later. Here's how.
Mix pearls with simple homemade syrup. To make the syrup combine 1 cup of water with 1 cup of sugar in a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil and reduce it for the next 10 minutes.
When the syrup is ready, soak the tapioca pears in the syrup and place the mixture in the fridge for up to 2 days.
It's still a good idea to eat them as soon as possible, but this way you can save them for a little longer.

Glad you liked it!

The drink is good if consumed immediately, but the melon-milk mix will turn bitter if you try to save it for later.

Hi Tony, thank you for your feedback! So happy to hear you liked the drink! I've just updated this post to add that this drink is by far best when consumed fresh and I generally don't advise storing it for later.
