    This roasted cannellini beans recipe uses pantry staples that you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard. You can serve them as part of your main dish, eat them as a snack or a side.

    🛒 Ingredients

    Here are the simple ingredients to make these addicting crispy white beans.

    • Cannellini Beans: To save time, we are using canned cannellini beans.
    • Olive Oil: Helps provide crispiness and adds a richer flavor. 
    • Paprika Powder: Adds a lightly sweet flavor.
    • Garlic Powder: Provides a robust, savory taste. You can use garlic granules instead.
    • Onion Powder: Complements the garlic powder and adds depth.
    • Cornstarch (cornflour in the UK): Coating the beans in cornstarch will help provide crispiness. 

    In addition to the ingredients above, you will also need salt & black pepper (to taste).

    Hint - Think of the seasoning as more of a suggestion rather than a hard rule. If desired, feel free to use your other favorite herbs and spices instead.

    • Kitchen or Paper Towels: For drying the beans thoroughly
    • Large Bowl: For mixing the beans with the seasonings.
    • Parchment Paper: To prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
    • Baking Sheet / Sheet pan: For spreading the beans in an even layer.
    • Preheated Oven: Set to 180°C / 356°F for optimal roasting.

    👣 Steps

    Before starting - you need to prepare the beans. Drain and rinse a can of cannellini beans thoroughly. Spread them on a large baking sheet lined with paper towels and pat dry. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to ensure they are completely dry.

    Step 1: Season the Beans. In a large bowl, toss the beans with olive oil, cornstarch and all the seasoning until evenly coated.

    Step 2: Spread the Beans. Spread the beans in an even layer on a lined baking sheet.

    Step 3: Roast & Stir. Roast in the preheated oven (180°C / 356°F) for 25 to 35 minutes until crispy. Stir halfway through to ensure even baking.

    Step 4: Serve & enjoy! Take care when removing them from the oven as they'll be scorching hot.

    Important Reminder: Every oven works slightly differently even when set at the same temperature. While this recipe provides as accurate directions as possible, you may need to adjust cooking times. Aim for that 25-minute mark and continue to check regularly for crispiness.

    • Stir Halfway: Last but not least, this is another crucial step. Stir the beans halfway through the roasting time for even crispiness.

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions

    Can I use a different type of beans?

    Yes, you can use black beans, navy beans, adzuki beans, butter beans, pinto beans or even garbanzo beans (chickpeas in the UK). Keep in mind that each bean will provide a slightly different flavor and texture. 

    How do I store leftover beans?

    Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can reheat them in an oven or eat them as a cold snack. The longer they're out of the oven, the more they'll lose their crispiness. 

    Can I make roasted cannellini beans on the stovetop?

    You can fry the beans in a large oiled pan until crispy. However, roasting is the best way to achieve even crispiness.

    What if I don't have cornstarch?

    Cornstarch helps create a crispy texture, but you can leave it out if needed. The beans will still be delicious, though slightly less crispy.

    🍋 Variations

    • Spicy: When seasoning the beans, add cayenne pepper, chili flakes, or chili powder.
    • Indian-inspired: Add garam masala or curry powder when seasoning. 
    • Red Robin: Give these a smoky twist with my homemade Red Robin seasoning.
    • Nutty: Mix in sesame seeds before roasting to give these a nutty finish.
    • Sharp: Give these a zesty twist by adding some lemon or orange zest. You can also replace some of the oil with fresh lemon juice.
    • Balsamic Glaze: Drizzle with balsamic vinegar before roasting for a tangy finish.

    🥗 Serving Suggestions

    • Salads: Sprinkle on top of salads to instantly boost the protein and fiber content.
    • Mains: Serve them with pasta or rice dishes or to add a protein-rich, crispy element. 
    • Side Dish: Serve alongside main dishes like roasted vegetables, potatoes, tofu etc.
    • Snack: My favorite way to eat these is to gobble them all up as a snack hot or cold.

    INGREDIENTS 

    • 2 cans cannellini beans 15 oz. / 400g per can
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 4 teaspoon cornstarch cornflour in the UK
    • salt & pepper to taste

    INSTRUCTIONS
