    Why You’ll Love It

A traditional red tomato sauce is brilliant, but sometimes you need to switch things up a little. That's when my vibrant green sauce comes in handy.

    • You can make it in batches & freeze it for later
    • Better than any store bought sauce
    • Made within 5 minutes
    • Can be served as a dipping sauce for pizza
    • Easy & simple ingredients like garlic, basil & dry herbs
    • Like green pesto, but with no nuts
    • A great alternative to classic red pizza sauce

Plus, I prepared step-by-step photos, video & serving suggestions for you below!

    The Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make my AMAZING green pizza sauce.

The 5 ingredients needed to make vegan pizza sauce laid out on a flat background.

    Ingredient notes:

Fresh basil - no need to discard the stalks. I used both the leaves & the stalks.

Baby spinach - can be swapped for regular spinach.

Olive oil - you can use any other oil of your choice (sunflower, hemp, etc)

Equipment - I used my Optimum blender by Froothie. You can use any food processor or high-speed blender.

    Step-by-step Photos

This is so simple to make, you practically can’t go wrong.

PS - Full ingredients list & detailed instructions are available at the bottom of this post.

A collage of four images showing four steps in making green pizza sauce.
    1. Add your ingredients to the blender (start with oil).
    2. Blend until smooth. Adjust to taste (e.g. add more salt, garlic, or make it spicy).
    3. Spread on pizza.*
    4. Bake & enjoy!

*This sauce can also be served on bread, as a dip, as a salad dressing.

    Expert Tips

    • Make it spicy by adding green chilies (or chili flakes).
    • Don’t have a blender? Use a food processor or hand blender.
    • Want it runnier? Add more oil.
    • Find it too runny? Add more spinach or basil.
    • Once everything is blended, add more spices or herbs to taste.
    • Make it oil-free by swapping oil for water.
    • Customise it with your own greens like parsley & kale
    • Want premade pizza sauce? Make it in large batches and have it ready whenever you want. Storing suggestions below.

    FAQ

A hand holding out a small bowl full of green pizza sauce.
How do you put pizza sauce on the pizza?

Simply use a spoon (preferably one with a flat base). Start in the center of the pizza. Then move the spoon in bigger & bigger circles.

Make sure you’re not using too much sauce or the pizza will end up soggy.

Still not sure? Watch this video.

Can I eat this pizza sauce raw?

Yes, of course! Use it as a dip or spread (it's so delicious!)

    Can I freeze pizza sauce?

No problem! Place it in an airtight container & freeze for up to 2 months.

    Is this recipe vegan?

    Yes, it’s both vegan & gluten-free.

    Storing & Serving

To store, place in an airtight container in the fridge. Keep for about 3-4 days.

There are countless ways of serving it - feel free to get creative.

I spread it on pizza, then topped it with cherry tomatoes & smoked vegan mozzarella. Just before serving, I added watercress, chives & hemp seeds. I used a pre-made pizza base (from M&S) and baked it for 10 minutes at 200°C.

Whereas I love it on pizza, I’m also addicted to using this sauce as a(e.g. add more salt, garlic, or make it spicy) for my homemade garlic twist bread.

    My other top serving suggestions:

    • As a pizza dipping sauce
    • Toss it around with lettuce & veggies for a great salad dressing
    • Spread it on bread & top it off with arugula (rocket), zucchini and toasted seeds
    • If you’re making your own homemade bread rolls, you can use this sauce as a filling - it’s SO good.
